Hartley People Recruitment in partnership with our client are hiring for a Refrigeration Engineer in Portlaoise.
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity within the technician team, based in Portlaoise and supporting customer sites across Ireland. The role would suit an experienced refrigeration or service engineer who enjoys a hands-on position, problem-solving in the field, and working across a range of mechanical and cooling equipment.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, repairing and preparing equipment for hire or transfer. The equipment portfolio includes water and fluid chillers, air handlers, pumps and air conditioning units. The role also involves fault-finding, diagnostics, routine depot servicing, supporting stock management, and helping to ensure equipment is ready to meet customer and contract requirements. There is also scope to broaden experience into areas such as compressors, steam generators, diesel heaters and boilers.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain, service and repair equipment to a high standard.
Carry out fault diagnosis and major equipment repairs when required.
Prepare equipment on time for hire, transfer or customer deployment.
Support quality service delivery and ensure equipment meets operational and contract needs.
Complete routine servicing of depot test plant.
Liaise with suppliers, procurement and inventory teams to help maintain stock levels.
Follow all quality, health, safety and environmental procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
Provide technical support to colleagues and customers when needed.
Share knowledge with the wider team and support the development of apprentices.
Skills and Experience
A strong technical background in refrigeration, service engineering or a related field.
A City and Guilds or ONC Level 3 qualification, or an equivalent technical qualification.
Refrigerant Handling and F-Gas certification.
Good PC skills, including basic Microsoft Office.
A well-organised approach and the ability to maintain high vehicle and operational standards.
Strong communication skills and the ability to manage customer expectations in busy or high-pressure situations.
