ASA Solar is a newly established Solar PV installation company delivering high-quality solar energy solutions for homes and businesses across Cork and the wider Munster region.
Although ASA Solar is a new company, it is backed by the experience, reputation and operational strength of ASA, an established access control, security and automation business with over 20 years’ experience working across domestic and commercial projects.
We are now looking for a Roofing General Operative to join our growing Solar PV installation team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable and hardworking person who is comfortable working outdoors, interested in renewable energy and looking to develop a long-term career within the Solar PV industry.
The Role
The successful candidate will work alongside our lead roofer, electricians and wider installation team, supporting the roofing aspects of domestic, agricultural and commercial Solar PV installations.
You will assist with preparing roofs, moving and organising materials, installing mounting systems, lifting and positioning solar panels and maintaining a safe and organised work area.
No formal roofing qualification is required, but previous experience in roofing, construction, carpentry, labouring or Solar PV installation would be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the lead roofer with Solar PV installations on domestic, agricultural and commercial properties.
- Help prepare roof areas before installation work begins.
- Assist with measuring, marking and setting out Solar PV mounting systems.
- Help install roof hooks, rails, brackets and mounting equipment under supervision.
- Lift, position and secure solar panels as part of the installation team.
- Assist with removing and replacing roof tiles or slates where required.
- Load, unload and organise panels, tools, ladders and installation materials.
- Safely use hand tools and power tools under instruction.
- Help protect customers’ properties and maintain a clean work area.
- Follow instructions from the lead roofer and project management team.
- Work closely with electricians and other members of the installation team.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures.
- Use ladders, scaffolding and access equipment safely.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, site contacts and colleagues.
- Represent ASA Solar professionally while working on customers’ properties.
Requirements
- Previous experience in roofing, construction, carpentry, Solar PV or a general operative position is preferred but not essential.
- Comfortable working outdoors and at height.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting panels, tools and materials.
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely under supervision.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to learn.
- Strong work ethic and professional attitude.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Full clean driving licence is strongly preferred.
- Safe Pass and Manual Handling certificates are preferred.
- Working at Heights training would be an advantage.
- Roofing or Solar PV installation experience would be a strong advantage.

The ideal candidate will take pride in their work, follow instructions carefully and support the lead roofer and wider installation team in delivering clean, safe and professional Solar PV installations.
This role may suit someone with experience as a roofing labourer, construction operative, carpenter’s assistant, Solar PV installer or general trades assistant who wants to build a career in renewable energy.
