BAR MANAGER – SLIGO
Salary Range €34,000–€37,500 + Performance Bonus + Healthcare Contribution + Pension
Full-time Permanent | 40 Hours | 5 Days per Week
We are looking for an experienced, energetic and hands-on Bar Manager to join the team of a busy, established bar in Sligo.
This is a working management position. The successful candidate will be part of the weekly bar roster, working alongside the team while taking responsibility for the smooth day-to-day operation of the bar.
We are looking for someone who enjoys being on the floor, understands how a busy bar should operate and is comfortable leading from the front.
THE ROLE
The Bar Manager will work 40 hours per week, typically over five days, combining regular bar shifts with management responsibilities.
The roster will include a combination of daytime, evening and weekend shifts according to the needs of the business. We will aim to provide two consecutive days off where reasonably possible.
This is not a Monday-to-Friday or 9-to-5 management position.
Hands-On Bar Management
- Work regular shifts as part of the bar team
- Lead the team during busy trading periods
- Maintain excellent customer service and bar standards
- Ensure drinks are prepared and presented consistently
- Deal confidently with customer queries and issues
- Take responsibility for the smooth running of each shift
Staff Management & Rostering
- Prepare and manage weekly staff rosters
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels while managing labour costs
- Manage holidays, availability and shift changes
- Train, support and motivate new and existing staff
- Set clear standards and address performance issues when required
- Build a positive, professional and reliable team
Quality, Hygiene & Standards
Maintaining excellent standards will be a key responsibility of the Bar Manager.
- Ensure consistently high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
- Oversee daily and weekly cleaning routines
- Ensure agreed procedures are followed by all staff
- Maintain high standards throughout the bar and customer areas
- Identify and address quality or hygiene issues immediately
Stock Management & Control
The Bar Manager will take an active role in:
- Stock ordering and receiving deliveries
- Maintaining appropriate stock levels
- Regular stocktakes
- Monitoring stock variances and wastage
- Ensuring appropriate stock storage and rotation
- Maintaining effective stock controls
- Working with the owners to achieve agreed margins
Day-to-Day Operations
- Opening and closing the premises as rostered
- Cash handling and reconciliation
- Ensuring opening and closing procedures are followed
- Resolving operational issues as they arise
- Maintaining appropriate security and operational procedures
- Working closely with the owners on the performance and development of the business
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for someone with previous supervisory or management experience in a busy bar, pub, hotel bar or similar hospitality environment.
You should have experience in:

✓ Training and developing team members
✓ Stock ordering, stocktaking and stock control
✓ Maintaining high quality and hygiene standards
✓ Cash handling and reconciliation
✓ Delivering excellent customer service
✓ Taking responsibility and solving problems during busy shifts

You should be reliable, organised, approachable and commercially aware, with the confidence to make decisions and the willingness to lead by example.
PACKAGE
€34,000–€37,500 per annum, depending on experience
