Every patient transfer we carry out starts with a phone call. The person who takes that call decides which vehicle goes, which crew goes, and whether the hospital gets the bed back on time. That's the job.
We're hiring Control & Dispatch Officers to join our Control & Dispatch Centre. You'll be the link between our crews on the road and the hospitals, nursing homes, event organisers and families who rely on us.
About us
Murray Ambulance Service has been operating since 2008 as a PHECC-licensed independent ambulance provider. We're ISO 9001:2015 certified and CHKS accredited, and we run a low-emission fleet. Our work covers inter-hospital transfers, discharges and admissions, repatriation, event medical cover and contracted services for statutory and healthcare clients.
Dispatch runs on our own in-house platform, built and maintained by our own team, so the tools you'll use day to day are designed around how the job actually works rather than bought off a shelf.
What you'll be doing
- Taking service requests by phone, email and through our dispatch platform, and logging them accurately
- Allocating the right vehicle, crew and equipment to each call based on patient need, geography and availability
- Keeping a live picture of where every unit is and what it's doing
- Re-planning on the fly when delays, cancellations or breakdowns happen, and keeping everyone informed
- Staying in close contact with crews throughout the shift and escalating any issues quickly
- Liaising with bed managers, ward staff, nursing home managers, discharge coordinators and event organisers
- Providing quotations to private and event clients, and making sure billing information reaches Accounts correctly
- Producing daily activity reports and giving a proper handover at the end of every shift
You will not be providing clinical advice or triage. Anyone describing a life-threatening emergency is directed straight to 112 or 999.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Leaving Certificate or equivalent
- Clear, professional communication in English, written and spoken
- Confident with computers and able to pick up bespoke software quickly
- Able to juggle several things at once without losing accuracy
- Good judgement, and the confidence to make a call and escalate when needed
- Calm under pressure
- Available for shift work including nights, weekends and public holidays
- Discretion with confidential patient and commercial information
Nice to have:
- Experience in ambulance control, emergency services dispatch, transport logistics or similar coordination work
- Knowledge of the Irish healthcare system, acute hospitals, nursing homes, HSE structures
- A good sense of Irish geography and realistic journey times
- Experience with quotations or invoicing
- A PHECC qualification or previous patient-facing experience
