Accounts Assistant

The Company
A growing Irish business operating within the engineering and infrastructure sector is seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join its finance team. This is a hands-on role offering broad exposure across day-to-day financial operations within a fast-paced and expanding organisation.
Working closely with management, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, supporting reporting requirements, and ensuring the smooth running of the accounts function.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and bookkeeping processes
- Process purchase invoices, supplier payments, and customer receipts
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Perform bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with Revenue requirements
- Assist with payroll administration and related reporting where required
- Support month-end and year-end accounting processes
- Maintain organised digital financial records and documentation
- Liaise with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders regarding account queries
- Assist management with financial reporting and cashflow monitoring
Requirements
- Previous bookkeeping/accounts assistant experience in a similar role
- Experience preparing VAT returns and managing day-to-day accounts functions
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
- Experience with Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar accounting systems
- Accounting Technician, IATI, or bookkeeping qualification
- Experience working within engineering, construction, utilities, or service-based industries
- Payroll experience
