Post Summary
The Clinical Practice Support Nurse (CPSN) is a key member of the Nursing Management team at Clontarf Hospital. The role centres on the identification, support and provision of learning opportunities in clinical nursing and health care assistant practice including practice development. The CPSN is responsible for promoting best practice through staff development and education. They will act as a clinical resource and mentor. The successful candidate must have appropriate interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills to perform the role effectively.
The applicant must:
- Be a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Ireland in the General Division of the register.
- Ability to undertake the core competencies as outlined in the job responsibilities.
- Minimum of 5 years post registration experience.
- Acute hospital experience
- Have excellent communication skills.
- Perficient IT Skills
- Knowledgeable in competence development
- Knowledgeable in the area of continuous professional development
Desirable:
- A facilitation, leadership or nurse education qualification is desirable.
- Clinical Practice Support experience is desirable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will carry out the following duties. The job description indicates the main functions and responsibilities of the post and is subject to review and amendment. Other specific work not covered in this job description may also be assigned by the Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing from time to time.
Clinical Focus:
- Support all registered nurses to practice within the code of practice set by NMBI
- Promote professional accountability in line with the NMBI Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.
- Support staff to develop their NMBI registration evidence.
- Provide frontline expert nursing care and mentorship to Staff Nurses and Health Care Assistants
- Orientation of new Staff Nurses and Health Care Assistants.
- Work alongside Staff Nurses and Health Care Assistants and support with Professional Development Plans and Performance Improvement Plans
- Support the facilitation of mandatory training.
- Support staff with competence and skill sign off.
- Provide clinical support and ongoing education of registered nurses and health care assistants and other members of the multidisciplinary when needed.
- Identify and respond to the learning needs of individuals and the service.
- Evaluation of the effectiveness of nursing education within the hospital.
- Develops evidence-based educational materials and evaluate their effectiveness and regularly update same to reflect best practice.
- To work closely with clinical staff to implement hospital and discharge policies.
- Maintain a positive working relationship within the hospital.
- Ensuring the application of best practice including the generation of documentation including policy, procedures and guidelines to continuously improve the effectiveness within the nursing department and within the hospital
- Create a culture of accountability, openness to change, respect for the individual and teamwork that supports the ethos of the hospital.
- Promote a person-centred approach.
