General Manager
The Planet is a leading health and leisure club based in Cork city and is seeking an experienced and motivated General Manager to lead operations and drive exceptional member experiences.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious leisure professional with strong operational leadership skills, a passion for customer service, and proven experience managing facilities that include a swimming pool and wet leisure areas.
About the Role
As General Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a busy and dynamic health club facility. You will lead a dedicated team across gym, pool, fitness, and front-of-house operations, ensuring the highest standards of service, safety, cleanliness, and member satisfaction.
You will play a key role in both the operational and commercial success of the club, driving membership growth, team performance, and facility standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily health club operations
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team across all departments
- Manage the swimming pool operation, including compliance, water quality standards, plant room oversight, and safety procedures
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety, risk management, and operational regulations
- Drive membership retention, sales initiatives, and ancillary revenue opportunities
- Manage staffing rotas, recruitment, training, and performance management
- Monitor budgets, control costs, and deliver on financial targets
- Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, presentation, and facility maintenance
- Build strong relationships with members and handle customer feedback professionally
- Work closely with senior management to implement strategic business objectives
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 3–5 years’ management experience within a health club, leisure centre, hotel leisure club, or similar environment
- Essential experience managing facilities with a swimming pool and wet leisure areas
- Strong understanding of pool plant operations, safety regulations, and compliance standards
- Proven leadership and team development experience
- Commercial awareness with a track record of driving sales and membership growth
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- A hands-on management style with a strong customer focus
- Relevant leisure, fitness, pool operations, or management qualifications are highly desirable
