Position Summary
Your position is as Sacristan for the Franciscan Province of Ireland with responsibility for the preparation of the Altar for Mass and other ceremonies, and as housekeeper responsibly for the cleanliness of public and common areas of the Friary and guest accommodation. You may be required to carry out other duties from time to time which are not outlined in this job description.
Responsibilities as Sacristan:
· Prepare the Altar for Mass.
· Set out vestments according to Ordo.
· Take care of and clean the Sacred Vessels each week. Wash and clean for each Mass and change purifiers after 2 Masses.
· Laundry of altar linens and vestments. Wash and iron as appropriate or dry clean if required.
· Check and clean the altar and side altars.
· Order, prepare and/or co-ordinate the flowers.
· Keep the sacristy and associated areas clean and tidy at all times.
· Keep the sanctuary clean and tidy.
· Change sanctuary lamp weekly.
· The cleaning of all confessionals.
· Dust, wash and/or polish pews, occasional furniture, ledges, windowsills, radiators, shelves etc. in the Church
· Remove dead flowers.
· Clean and tidy choir balcony if required.
· Clean sacristy.
· Cleaning and polishing of all brasses including candelabras, door handles and frames.
· Replenish Holy Water as necessary
· Laundry of altar linens
· Be on duty for all major Feast Days, if required
· Report / Document all incidents / accidents.
· Eucharistic Minister and/or Lector would be desirable.
Housekeeping responsibilities:
· Regular cleaning of all bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, showers and baths.
· The cleaning of all guest rooms and the changing of linen as required.
· Cleaning of internal windows, which can be reached without a ladder.
· Removal of all rubbish to appropriate bins.
· Cleaning of all common areas of the Friary including parlours, community room, corridors, Chapel, stairs and stair-wells.
· Dust, wash and/or polish furniture, ledges, window sills, radiators, shelves etc.
· Replenish consumables e.g. soap, toilet roll
· Vacuum, wash or polish and buff floors as appropriate.
· Notify the Guardian of deficiencies or items in need of repair.
· Cleaning and polishing of bannisters, door handles and frames.
· Cleaning of the lift
· Cleaning of Friar’s rooms and/or bathrooms where Friars are unable to do for themselves
· Laundry for Friars as required.
· Laundry of any altar lines / vestments that might be required.
· Cleaning in the dining room
· Cleaning the kitchen some days.
