Overview of role:
Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a Machine Operator to join the Overheads Lines Department. The role will involve working on overhead line infrastructure, including ESB poling activities. The ideal candidate will have a background in utilities and/or construction (3–5 years’ experience preferred), with relevant CSCS qualifications essential. This role requires flexibility, with regular travel to various work locations. Company transport will be provided from the base location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Crew / Team Leader by maintaining a proactive attitude and following all instructions effectively
- Ensure all machine-related documentation is present on site, accurate, and maintained in line with daily and weekly requirements
- Ensure all works are undertaken in accordance with Company and Client Health & Safety policies, MESCs, codes of practice, method statements, and HSA regulations
- Ensure the safe handling, care, and effective use of all tools, equipment, PPE, and company vehicles, and immediately report any faults or defects.
- Actively participate in pre-work Safety Risk Assessments and Job Site Safety Plans
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the worksite at all times
- Promptly report any issues, risks, or safety concerns to the PICW / Supervisor
- Work collaboratively with the team to support delivery of works and assist in resolving on-site challenges
- Attend and actively participate in training sessions, team briefings, and toolbox talks
- Ensure all Good Catches and Near Misses are identified and reported in a timely manner
To be considered for the Machine Operator position you will Ideally have the following:
- Full clean driving licence with willingness to travel and work across various customer sites
- Proven experience operating excavators (360) and/or backhoe loaders (180) in the utilities sector, construction or similar is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Reliable, flexible, and capable of working on own initiative.
- Willingness to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and on short-notice
- Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and quality standards
- Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certification
- Relevant CSCS qualifications / plant operator tickets (360 and/or 180)
- Experience in ESB poling or utilities work (desirable).
