About the Farm
We operate a progressive, highly efficient grass-based dairy farm milking 300 cows. We pride ourselves on excellent herd health, top-quality milk production, and maintaining high grassland management and environmental standards. We are looking for a reliable, self-motivated, and enthusiastic Dairy Farm Assistant to join our team.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesMilking & Milk Quality
- Run daily milking operations in our milking parlor.
- Maintain exceptionally high standards of parlor hygiene, cow preparation, and wash-down routines
- Identify, record, and treat health issues during milking.
Animal Husbandry & Welfare
- Monitor the overall health, body condition, and welfare of the dairy herd daily.
- Assist with herd breeding programs, heat detection, and artificial insemination (AI) support.
- Draft and move stock safely using low-stress handling techniques.
- Support lameness management, hoof bathing, and routine herd treatments/vaccinations.
Calving & Calf Rearing (Primarily Spring)
- Assist with calving duties, ensuring a safe environment for both cows and newborn calves.
- Manage calf feeding, colostrum delivery, calf tagging, and registration.
- Maintain clean, dry, and well-bedded calf housing to prevent disease.
Grassland & Feed Management
- Implement daily grazing plans, including setting up strip-grazing wires and moving water troughs.
- Measure pasture [if using plate meter/agritech] to assist with weekly grass allocation and grazing rotations.
- Operate feeding systems and distribute silage/buffer feeds during shoulder periods.
Farm Maintenance & Machinery
- Safely operate farm machinery (tractors, loaders, quad bikes) for daily feeding, scraping, scraping yards, and basic field tasks (fertilizer/slurry spreading).
- Assist with general farm maintenance, including paddock fencing, water line repairs, and maintaining clean yard environments.
- Adhere strictly to the farm's Health and Safety statement and standard safe working guidelines.
