The Opportunity
ROQ Commercial Contracting is seeking an experienced Lead Survey & Setting Out Engineer with 10+ years' experience in civil engineering to join our expanding team.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious engineer looking to take ownership of the surveying and engineering function within a fast-growing civil engineering contractor.
You will play a key role in the successful delivery of projects across Ireland, taking responsibility for surveying, setting out, machine control, engineering records and as-built information from project commencement through to completion.
Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will help establish engineering standards across the business while supporting the continued growth of our operations.
This role is intended to develop into a Director-level position for the right individual. As the company continues to expand, you will have the opportunity to build and lead our engineering department, mentor future engineers and help shape the strategic direction of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out topographical, control and engineering surveys.
- Establish, maintain and manage site control networks.
- Accurately set out all aspects of civil engineering works including earthworks, roads, drainage, utilities, foundations, hardstands and renewable energy infrastructure.
- Produce, manage and maintain machine control models for GPS-equipped plant.
- Configure and support DPS machine control systems across the fleet.
- Operate GPS, Total Stations and surveying equipment to the highest professional standard.
- Produce accurate as-built surveys, drawings and engineering records throughout each project.
- Generate engineering information to support project evaluations, commercial valuations and final accounts.
- Carry out volume surveys, cut and fill analysis, quantity verification and site measurements.
- Prepare drawings and survey data using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Centre and other engineering software.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and site teams to resolve engineering challenges and ensure projects are delivered safely, accurately and efficiently.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, accuracy and productivity across the business.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers as the engineering team grows.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in surveying and setting out on civil engineering projects.
- Proven ability to independently manage the engineering function on complex projects.
- Extensive experience with:
- Trimble GPS
- Total Stations
- Modern surveying equipment
- Advanced knowledge of:
- AutoCAD
- Civil 3D
- Trimble Business Centre
- Survey data processing software
- Proven experience creating, managing and uploading machine control models.
- Strong knowledge of DPS machine control systems.
- Experience producing high-quality as-built drawings and engineering records.
- Excellent understanding of volume calculations, earthworks quantities and site measurement.
- Strong technical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to delivering work to the highest standard.
- Ability to work independently, make informed engineering decisions and manage multiple priorities.
- Full clean driving licence.
