The Early Years Educator is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children in accordance with national childcare standards. The role involves supporting children’s holistic development, implementing age-appropriate learning activities, maintaining positive relationships with families, and ensuring high-quality care in line with the centre’s policies and the principles of Aistear and Síolta.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the daily care and supervision of children aged 1-12 in a warm, responsive, child-centred manner.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
- Follow Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and Síolta: The National Quality Framework.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised learning environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- Observe, record, and assess each child’s progress; contribute to learning stories, portfolios, and parent updates.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Promote inclusive practices and support children with diverse needs.
- Follow all regulatory requirements in line with Tusla Early Years Inspectorate standards.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuous professional development.
- Assist with meal times, toileting, hygiene routines, and general care needs.
- Ensure confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to all centre policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum FETAC Level 5 in Early Childhood Care & Education (or equivalent QQI Level 5).
- Knowledge of Aistear and Síolta frameworks.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
- Genuine passion for working with young children.
- Ability to provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Garda Vetting and relevant references required.
- First Aid training (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable Skills (Optional)
- FETAC Level 6 or higher qualification.
- Experience working in a childcare or early years setting.
- Additional training in special educational needs, child protection, or behaviour support.
Work Environment
- Busy, play-based early years setting with active participation in indoor and outdoor learning.
- Physical involvement in activities such as lifting, floor play, and supervising movement.
