The Irish Organic Association is recruiting a Standards Officer – Food Processing
This role is a full-time position based full-time in our Athlone office. The preferred candidate will possess a a combination of relevant educational background, experience in food regulatory systems and a keen interest in organic production. As part of the IOA team, the role is to assist the Certification Manager and Standards and Compliance Coordinator in the administration of the organic certification of food processors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist with the preparation of standards for organic products/production.
- Gaining local and international knowledge through attendance at outside meetings and taking notes of those meetings.
- Distributing documentation to Standards Panel and Certification Panel as appropriate and evaluating responses.
- Notifying changes to organic standards and other relevant information to IOA operators.
2. Provide technical information to applicants, processors, consumers and other enquirers.
3. Routinely process and field organic operator documentation – licences, scope extensions, renewals, CP correspondence, extension of lands, derogations, import/export certificates, label approvals etc.
4. Review inspectors’ reports from food processing inspections
5. Assist with the coordination of Certification Panel meetings and make decisions on certification where the need arises in line with IOA procedures.
6. Assist with reporting to competent authorities and other bodies as required under current legislation including maintaining on-line platforms such as TRACES and Seed Database.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Third level qualification in Agricultural Science, Marine Science or Food Science
- A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience in food regulatory systems
- Valid full driver’s license, own transport.
