We have exciting projects secured in the Mayo, Galway and Limerick areas and seeking to hire experienced Working Site Foremen and Qualified Plumbers for these project locations. These are full-time, permanent positions with great opportunities available to progress within the company, if desired.

The Role
As a Mechanical Foreman you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical installation teams on-site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, to the required quality standard, and in accordance with project drawings, specifications, programmes, and Irish building regulations. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, site management team, subcontractors, suppliers, and other trades to support the successful day-to-day delivery of mechanical works across KD Group projects.
This is a key site-based leadership role suited to an experienced mechanical craftsperson who takes pride in high-quality workmanship, clear communication, practical problem-solving, and maintaining a safe and productive working environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the Mechanical Foreman are outlined as follows:
- Supervise, coordinate, and lead mechanical installation teams on-site, including direct labour, subcontractors, and specialist installers where applicable
- Ensure all mechanical works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project drawings, specifications, coordinated layouts, method statements, risk assessments, and Irish building regulations
- Plan and organise day-to-day site activities, labour allocation, work fronts, materials, tools, plant, and equipment to support programme requirements
- Liaise with Project Managers, Project Engineers, site management teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and other trades to ensure smooth coordination and delivery of mechanical works
- Monitor site progress, productivity, quality of workmanship, labour performance, and installation sequencing, escalating issues early where they may impact programme, cost, safety, or quality
- Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, pre-task briefings, and site coordination discussions to ensure all operatives understand the work requirements and associated health and safety controls
- Promote and maintain KD Group health, safety, quality, environmental, and housekeeping standards on-site at all times
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, schematics, and coordinated layouts to identify installation requirements, clashes, access issues, buildability concerns, or technical queries
- Assist in resolving technical, sequencing, coordination, and site installation issues in conjunction with the Project Engineer and Project Manager
- Raise and communicate requests for information, site observations, or design coordination issues where clarification is required before works proceed
- Manage receipt, checking, storage, distribution, and protection of materials, equipment, tools, and consumables on-site
- Ensure installations are completed to the required quality standard and support completion of inspection and test records, pressure testing, flushing, commissioning checks, snagging, and handover requirements
- Maintain accurate records of works completed, labour hours, site issues, deliveries, delays, variations, progress updates, and other information required by the project team
- Support preparation of weekly lookahead plans, progress reporting, whiteboard planning sessions, and coordination meetings as required
- Coordinate with other trades to ensure access, sequencing, builder’s works, supports, penetrations, builders’ openings, and interfaces are properly understood and managed
- Mentor, support, and guide apprentices, general operatives, and junior members of the mechanical installation team
- Other duties as required from time to time
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
The main knowledge, skills and experience of the Mechanical Foreman are outlined as follows:
- Fully qualified plumber, pipefitter, or mechanical craftsperson with relevant trade certification
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical installation, preferably within the mechanical engineering or building services industry
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory, chargehand, team lead, or foreman role
- Strong practical knowledge of HVAC, pipework, plumbing, plantroom installations, mechanical services, supports, brackets, testing, commissioning support, and associated building services systems
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, coordinated layouts, specifications, and installation details
- Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certification essential; MEWP, Abrasive Wheels, Working at Heights, or First Aid certification would be an advantage
- Good understanding of Irish construction site safety requirements, quality expectations, and site coordination practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and planning skills with the ability to motivate site teams and maintain productive working relationships
- Ability to use own initiative, solve practical site issues, and escalate matters appropriately where support or clarification is required
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, hotel, public sector, or data centre projects would be an advantage
- Basic competency in using mobile devices, email, drawings, site records, and digital reporting tools
- Full clean driving licence desirable
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Selection Criteria / Person Specification: Essential
- National Craft Certificate
- Valid Training Certificates - Safe Pass, Manual Handling, etc.
- Industrial Plumber Experience +5 years min.
- IT proficiency: MS Office skills and adaptability would be advantageous
