Westmeath County Council consists of 20 members who are elected every five years; The county is divided into two Municipal Districts of Mullingar/ Kinnegad and Athlone / Moate with the administrative headquarters of the Council located in Mullingar. There are also Civic Offices located in Athlone and Castlepollard. Mullingar is the county town while Athlone is a Regional Growth Centre under the National Planning Framework.
An opportunity now exists in Westmeath County Council for the position of Senior Executive Engineer.
Job Summary/Description:
The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to lead a team or teams and to provide technical and managerial support across all local authority service areas and to liaise with external agencies and support the democratic process. They will be required to report to their appropriate line manager, assist the senior leadership team as may be required and deal with elected members in respect of the County and to attend Council meetings as required. They may also be required to deputise for the Senior Engineer.
Senior Executive Engineers are appointed to a wide variety of roles across the Council. The role can include responsibility for the management and successful delivery of a range of major and minor capital projects, responsibility for the management and effective delivery of a range of services and responsibility for the management and supervision of assigned staff. Managers at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with the Local Authority’s vision and objectives, and the role is interchangeable across directorates. The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to work closely with elected Councillors to deliver the full range of services and implement local policy decisions.
