Senior Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Workshop Lead
Tony Doyle Coaches Ltd is seeking an experienced and qualified Senior Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Workshop Lead to take responsibility for the maintenance and repair of our fleet.
This is a key full-time role within the business. The successful candidate will be the sole mechanic in the workshop and will be expected to work independently, manage their own workload, and take ownership of the day-to-day running of the workshop.
Our fleet consists mainly of Mercedes large coaches, along with smaller vehicles including Iveco Daily models and DAF-engined vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out servicing, maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and repairs on coaches, buses and light commercial vehicles.
Use computer diagnostic equipment to identify and repair mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.
Take responsibility for the regular maintenance schedule for the fleet.
Plan and control preventative maintenance to minimise vehicle downtime.
Prepare vehicles for CVRT and arrange/schedule CVRT testing as required.
Carry out routine safety inspections and ensure defects are identified and repaired promptly.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance work, parts used and vehicle history.
Source parts, liaise with suppliers and ensure parts are ordered in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Manage workshop stock, including commonly used service parts, consumables and essential spare parts.
Work on engines, brakes, suspension, steering, transmission, cooling systems and other heavy vehicle components.
Carry out minor body repairs and maintenance, including door systems, vehicle locks and related fittings.
Keep the workshop organised, safe and operating efficiently.
Advise management on vehicle condition, upcoming maintenance needs, parts requirements and any major repair issues.
Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with safety, roadworthiness and compliance requirements.
Essential Requirements
Relevant mechanical qualification, apprenticeship or trade certification.
Proven experience as a heavy vehicle, HGV, PSV, bus or coach mechanic.
Ability to work independently as the only mechanic in the workshop.
Strong experience using computer diagnostic equipment.
Excellent fault-finding and practical repair skills.
Good knowledge of heavy vehicle servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
Ability to manage maintenance schedules, workshop priorities and vehicle downtime.
Good organisational skills, including parts sourcing, stock control and record keeping.
High attention to detail and a strong focus on safety and reliability.
Reliable, self-motivated and capable of taking ownership of the workshop function.
Willingness to learn and develop additional skills where required.
Desirable Experience
Previous experience working on Mercedes coaches.
Knowledge of Iveco Daily Turas Coaches and DAF-engined Turas Coaches.
Experience with vehicle air conditioning systems, or willingness to learn this.
Experience changing or repairing commercial vehicle tyres, or willingness to learn this.
Experience preparing vehicles for CVRT.
Full clean driving licence; D licence would be an advantage but not compulsory.

Pay
Salary from €72,000 per annum, negotiable depending on experience. A package of €80,000+ may be available for an exceptional candidate with strong coach, diagnostics, CVRT preparation, workshop control, parts management, air conditioning and tyre-fitting experience.
Pay: €72,000.00-€80,000.00 per year
