General Responsibilities
The role of the Head housekeeper is to maintain the cleanliness of the home to a very high standard. The standard of the cleanliness, safety and tidiness should be achieved and maintained to meet the policies, procedures of the management.
Operational Responsibilities
- To lead and manage the housekeeping team by example
- To complete the housekeepers off duty
- To arrange team meetings
- To implement and document the cleaning schedule
- To supervise the housekeeping team and participate in housekeeping duties
- To ensure policies and procedures are being followed
- To familiarise themselves with up-to-date National Guidance on Infection prevention & control and hygiene policies and procedures
- To complete housekeeping staff appraisals – 6 weekly, 6 monthly and annually
- To liaise with administrator for ordering equipment or chemicals
- To complete housekeeping audits when required
- To arrange training in COSHH
- To ensure all housekeeping staff kept up to date on infection prevention and control training and practices
- To participate in health and safety meetings
- To clean and service all areas of the home, areas of cleaning will include, floors, corridors, walls, sluice, bathrooms, bedrooms, WC’s, living spaces, offices etc. and all other areas of the Nursing Home in accordance with the cleaning schedules.
- To replenish disposable such as hand towels, toilet rolls, bin liners, soaps etc.
- To help clean and tidy residents bedrooms, personal property, flowers, fruit bowls, newspapers etc. and to empty bins.
- To use, maintain and keep clean housekeeping equipment and machinery.
- To ensure the economical and correct use of cleaning materials and equipment.
- Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Nursing Home.
- Ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to any third party.
- Notify the Nurse on Duty as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and your return to work from all periods of absence.
- Ensure that the security of the Nursing home is maintained at all times.
- Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined time scale.
- Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
- Report immediately to the Nurse on duty, or person in charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by colleagues, self or others.
- Understand and ensure the implementation of, the Nursing Home’s Health and Safety policy, and Fire and Emergency procedure.
- Report to the Nurse on duty or person in charge any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazards.
- Promote safe working practice within the Nursing Home.
- Assist in the training of new staff.
- Attending Meetings / Training Courses as required.
- To ‘help out’ in other departments/areas of the business as required.
