Main Duties & Responsibilities
Reports on/off duty to the Theatre Porter supervisor in charge.
Transferring patients to and from Theatre from all Wards.
Cleaning and disinfecting Patients trolleys and preparing same.
Assist with moving and cleaning equipment.
Assist with cleaning of theatres. Prepare contaminated waste/sharps bins, bags, etc for collection
Assist with the positioning of the Patient on the theatre table
Specimen check 08.00,13.30 and 15.00
Change oxygen on trolleys
Stock and maintain sluice
Stock linen cupboard
Stock IV fluids from Pharmacy onto shelf
Collect Pharmacy for Theatre Collect store/supplies for theatre
Bring used instrument carts to CSSD and empty cart back
Bring clean instruments from CSSD to pack room
Place trays for following days lists onto trolley in pack room
Bring instruments and equipment sets to DSU
Collect used instruments carts from DSU and bring back empty carts
Help position patients in DSU
Collect beds from the ward(GFS3,OBS,Elective)
Collect used instruments from OPD and ENT
Change contaminated waste bags in Pain Management end of day
Change curtains when required
Change CO2 on stack systems
Bring scopes to and from Endoscopy
Maintain nitrous oxide and air levels on anaesthetic equipment
Maintain suction on anaesthetic equipment between cases
Sign off all daily check lists
During ward closures, reduced work loads etc, Porters may be re-allocated for general duties.
Attend mandatory training and any other recommended training.
Work co-operatively within the group and across departments and services to achieve goals.
Have the ability to understand and be tolerant of differing needs and viewpoints.
Provide information, instruction, and training of staff members under your remit, if applicable, in the context of management of Health & Safety such as PPE usage, chemical safety etc.
There is a responsibility on all staff to adhere to all hospital guidelines, policies & procedures and best practise. This includes infection control guidelines, waste management, and environmental management etc.
There is a responsibility on all staff to participate in internal and external audits and review as appropriate.
To work in a manner with due care and attention to safety of self, patients, staff and other persons in the workplace with reference to the Health, Safety at Work Act 2005.
To report immediately to Line Managers/ nominated persons, any accidents or incidents involving patients, staff and/ or members of the public in line with hospital policy.
To comply and be familiar with all hospital policies and procedures and in particular those relating to safety, health and Welfare, Infection Control, Hygiene, Risk Management and Decontamination.
