Travellers’ Voice has been in print since 1991 and is Ireland’s only national publication dedicated to the Traveller community. Read by Travellers and the wider community, the magazine shares inspiring personal stories, community initiatives, cultural features, news, advice and commentary.
As our Reporter and Content Creator, you will have the opportunity to meet interesting people, attend community events and uncover stories that might otherwise go untold. You will help contributors share their experiences in their own words and create accessible content that informs, inspires and connects our readers.
Location:
Based at Involve Ltd, Monksland, Athlone, N37 VX52
Responsibilities:
- Researching story ideas and topics relevant to the Traveller community.
- Interviewing community members, organisations and other contributors.
- Writing original news stories, interviews, profiles and feature articles.
- Attending relevant community events and producing engaging coverage.
- Identifying positive, interesting and under-reported stories.
- Submitting editorial content to the Editor within agreed deadlines.
Requirements:
We are interested in applicants who are curious about people, passionate about storytelling and committed to representing communities respectfully.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good research, interviewing and fact-checking skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to meet deadlines
- Confidence using standard office computer programmes and digital platforms.
- The ability to develop positive relationships internally and externally.
- A full clean driving licence and the ability to travel to relevant events.
Job Details:
The successful candidate will work 18 hours per week and is subject to a 3 month probationary period.
This position is supported by Pobal through the Community Services Programme. The successful applicant must meet the programme’s employment eligibility requirements.
