Key Responsibilities
Role Overview
We are looking for a versatile Roofer/Solar Installer to join our energy-upgrade team. This role involves maintaining the structural integrity of roofs while integrating advanced solar PV systems and modern ventilation technology. The ideal candidate is comfortable at heights and has a keen eye for waterproofing and structural safety.
Key Responsibilities
1. Solar PV Installation
- Mounting Systems: Installing roof-mounted rail systems for Solar PV on various roof types (slate, tiled, and metal).
- Panel Fitting: Securely mounting solar modules and ensuring all roof penetrations are perfectly flashed and weather-sealed.
- Cable Management: Routing DC cabling safely from the roof to the inverter location.
2. Roofing & Structural Repairs
- Repair & Maintenance: Identifying and fixing leaks, replacing broken slates/tiles, and repairing damaged felt or battens.
- Roof Upgrades: Strengthening roof structures where necessary to support the additional weight of solar arrays.
- Leadwork: Performing essential lead flashing repairs around chimneys, valleys, and solar entry points.
3. Ventilation Systems
- System Installation: Installing roof-mounted vents and mechanical ventilation units (such as PIV systems or bathroom extraction vents).
- Ducting: Running insulated ductwork through attic spaces to internal ceiling valves.
- Airtightness: Ensuring all ventilation penetrations through the ceiling or roof membrane are sealed according to BER standards.
Essential Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year in plastering or general construction labor.
- Tools: Must possess basic hand tools required for the trade.
While not strictly mandatory for application, the following will significantly increase your chances of selection:
- Safepass Card: Essential for working on construction sites.
- Driving Licence (Category B): Necessary for commuting between various site locations.
- Refferences from last jobs (employers)
- Ability to work alongside electricians and plumbers when closing up partitions or tiling around services.
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in domestic settings, ensuring all dust and debris from partitioning or tile cutting is contained.
