The Electrical Design Engineer at Harp Electrical Engineering is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of electrical systems for commercial, industrial, and building services projects. The role supports projects from initial concept through installation and commissioning, ensuring compliance with Irish and international electrical standards, client specifications, and safety regulations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
· Prepare electrical designs, single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, panel layouts, and cable schedules for commercial and industrial installations.
· Carry out electrical load calculations, cable sizing, fault level analysis, and protection coordination studies.
· Ensure all designs comply with ETCI/IEC standards, Irish building regulations, CE requirements, and health & safety standards.
· Produce and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support procurement activities for electrical components and systems.
· Collaborate with controls and automation teams on PLC, HMI, and SCADA-integrated projects.
· Support the design and integration of control panels, motor control systems, and field instrumentation.
· Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
· Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
· Provide engineering support during installation, testing, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and handover stages.
· Review technical submissions, vendor drawings, equipment datasheets, and subcontractor documentation.
· Prepare and maintain all project electrical documentation including drawings, calculations, technical reports, and commissioning records.
· Ensure compliance with client specifications, internal quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
· Manage engineering revisions, design updates, and change control procedures.
· Support preparation of O&M manuals and as-built documentation.
Required Qualifications
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Technical Skills
· Proficiency in electrical design software such as SolidWorks Electrical or similar CAD tools.
· Familiarity with PLC-based automation and building services electrical systems.
· Knowledge of Irish electrical standards, safety regulations, and commissioning practices.
· Experience in preparing technical documentation and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
