The Head Barista is responsible for leading the day-to-day coffee operations, ensuring exceptional beverage quality, delivering outstanding customer service, and supporting the development of the café team. This role combines hands-on barista expertise with leadership, training, and operational responsibilities.
Must have 2 years experience and a interest in specialty coffee
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve high-quality coffee and espresso-based beverages to a consistently high standard.
- Lead, motivate, and support the barista team during daily operations.
- Train and mentor new and existing staff on coffee preparation, customer service, and café standards.
- Monitor coffee quality, extraction, milk texturing, and presentation to maintain consistency.
- Manage stock levels, place orders, and liaise with suppliers to ensure adequate inventory.
- Oversee opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and daily operational checks.
- Maintain food safety, hygiene, and health and safety standards in line with company policies.
- Schedule staff, delegate tasks, and ensure smooth service during busy periods.
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Work with management to improve menu offerings, increase sales, and enhance the customer experience.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a barista, with previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of espresso preparation, milk steaming, latte art, and coffee brewing methods.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high quality.
- Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of food safety and HACCP procedures.
- Flexible, reliable, and capable of leading by example.
