Afterschool Manager
Location: Banada
Hours: Monday–Friday, Term Time (Approx. 2:00pm–6:00pm)
Reporting to: Area Manager
About the Role
Tír na nÓg Childcare is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Afterschool Manager to lead the daily operation of one of our afterschool services. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care, safety and education while managing staff, maintaining compliance, and building positive relationships with children, families and schools.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management
- Lead and supervise the afterschool team on a daily basis.
- Create a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment for children and staff.
- Allocate staff duties and ensure appropriate supervision at all times.
- Support and mentor staff through regular feedback and guidance.
- Assist with the induction and training of new employees.
Childcare & Programme Delivery
- Plan and oversee engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote children's learning, wellbeing and development.
- Ensure children are cared for in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.
- Promote children's independence, confidence and social development.
- Encourage positive behaviour through respectful and consistent practice.
Compliance & Safeguarding
- Ensure the service complies with Tusla School Age Childcare Regulations.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, accident/incident reports and daily documentation.
- Ensure all safeguarding concerns are managed in line with Children First Guidelines.
- Monitor staff-to-child ratios throughout each session.
- Carry out regular health and safety checks.
Administration
- Complete daily registers and attendance records.
- Maintain children's records and ensure confidentiality.
- Use Little Vista (or other childcare management systems) accurately.
- Submit required reports and documentation to the Area Manager.
Parent & School Relationships
- Build positive relationships with parents and guardians.
- Communicate effectively regarding children's wellbeing and daily activities.
- Work collaboratively with school staff to support smooth collections and transitions.
- Respond professionally to parent queries and concerns.
Teamwork
- Attend team meetings and training sessions.
- Support the wider Tír na nÓg team when required.
- Promote company values, policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements
- QQI Level 5 (or higher) in Early Childhood Care & Education or equivalent.
- Experience working with school-age children.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is desirable.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of Tusla regulations and Children First Guidelines.
- Ability to lead a team and work independently.
- Garda Vetting
- First Aid and Children First training (or willingness to complete).
