Migration Specialist - EHR Implementation

Overview of role:
The Migration Specialist will play a critical role in the extraction, transformation, validation, and loading of data from legacy systems into the Meditech Expanse Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform. The role focuses on ensuring data quality, integrity, and completeness across all migration cycles, supporting safe clinical operations and regulatory compliance during and after go-live. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with structured datasets. They will have experience in developing and working with data scripts (e.g. SQL, Python) to support transformation, and validation activities. In addition, they will possess strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to support data migration delivery across diverse systems and environments. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Data Migration Delivery

Support end-to-end data migration activities including data profiling, mapping, cleansing, transformation, and loading

Execute data extraction from legacy clinical and administrative systems

Develop and maintain data transformation logic in line with Meditech Expanse data structures

Load data into target systems and validate successful migration outcomes
- Document data structures, extract logic, and source-to-target dependencies, test results and defect resolution
Data Analysis & Mapping

Analyse source system data structures and assess data quality issues

Create detailed data mapping documents between legacy systems and Meditech Expanse

Collaborate with clinical and operational stakeholders to define data migration scope and prioritisation

Ensure alignment with agreed data migration strategy and data sets (e.g., demographics, encounters, results, medications)
Data Quality & Governance

Ensure compliance with data governance, data protection (GDPR), and healthcare regulatory requirements

Maintain audit trails and documentation for migration activities
-
Support adherence to data governance, security policies, and Data Protection requirements.

Data Transformation & Migration Support

Assist in developing, executing and maintaining transformation scripts (e.g. SQL, Python) to convert source data into required target formats.
Apply mapping rules and support handling of dictionary and mnemonic dependencies.

Testing & Validation
-
Run validation scripts to support reconciliation and data quality checks between source and target datasets, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

Support testing activities including System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and dress rehearsals.
Identify, log, track, and support resolution of data defects and issues.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Support workshops and information-gathering sessions across business, clinical and technical stakeholders.

Communicate data findings, issues, and updates clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Participate in team meetings, workshops, and programme review sessions.
Go-Live & Hypercare Support

Support cutover planning and execution for final data migration cycles

Participate in go-live activities and post-implementation support

Troubleshoot data-related issues during hypercare
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
-
Diploma or degree in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Mathematics) or equivalent practical experience.

Strong SQL and data manipulation skills using ETL processes, tools, or scripting

Understanding of data handling concepts, including data quality, validation, and reconciliation.

Experience performing data mapping, transformation, and reconciliation
Experience working with multiple data sources (databases, flat files, legacy systems)

Desirable

Proven experience in data migration within large-scale IT or EHR implementation programmes
- Knowledge of healthcare data domains (patient demographics, clinical data, orders, results)

Understanding of data governance and regulatory frameworks

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Good communication skills, with the ability to clearly present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Project)
