Kennel Hand - Busy Boarding Kennels

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Kennel Hand to join our busy boarding kennels in North Kildare. You will help care for a broad range of dog and cat breeds, ensuring that every animal receives attentive, compassionate care in a clean and safe environment.
This position requires genuine commitment. The animals in our care depend on staff being reliable, punctual and fully engaged, including during weekends and busy periods. Applicants should understand that maintaining animal welfare is a continuous responsibility and that every task contributes directly to the animals' health, comfort and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cattery areas, feeding equipment and shared facilities to a consistently high standard.
- Feed, exercise and care for dogs and cats according to their individual routines and welfare requirements.
- Safely handle dogs of various breeds, sizes, ages and temperaments.
- Monitor animals closely and promptly report changes in behaviour, appetite, condition or wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate feeding, cleaning, medication and animal-care records where required.
- Prepare accommodation for arrivals and ensure animals remain comfortable throughout their stay.
- Communicate clearly with colleagues to support smooth handovers and consistent standards of care.
- Complete several time-sensitive duties efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Follow all health and safety, hygiene, infection-control and animal-welfare procedures.
Requirements
- Previous direct experience handling dogs in a professional setting is required.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
- A strong commitment to animal welfare and responsible care is essential.
- Excellent organisational, communication and multitasking skills.
- Confidence working with a broad range of dog and cat breeds.
- Reliability, punctuality and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy team.
- A practical attitude and willingness to undertake physically demanding cleaning and animal-care duties.
- Flexibility and weekend availability are required.
- Reliable transport to the kennels may be necessary, depending on the applicant's location and shift times.
Working Hours
Available shifts include:
- Day shift: 8:00 am-6:00 pm
- Part-time morning shift: 7:30 am-1:00 pm
- Weekend shifts: Availability and flexibility are required
