Mechanical Automation Apprenticeship

Our Letterkenny operation continues to grow and now we are seeking application for an apprentice to train as a Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitter (MAMF). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to train with an established, highly skilled engineering team. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who has the right mechanical aptitude and desire to forge a career in machine shop/maintenance.
The apprenticeship role
The MAMF apprenticeship is a system of employment-focused training and education which enables a person to obtain the skills, knowledge and competence required to perform effectively as a craft person within industry. It involves seven phases of on-the-Job training as part of the maintenance team and off the job training modules carried out at designated SOLAS training centres.
At the end of the apprenticeship, the craftsperson will be able to demonstrate competence in the following skills:
- Installation, service, maintenance, fault rectification of process plant, machine tools, power and production equipment
- Component fabrication by Turning, Milling, Welding, Cutting, Machining, Drilling, Reaming and Pipe Fabrication
- Machine setting/adjustment of control system elements, including computerisation and system programming
The primary function of the Apprentice is to engage in the Apprentice Mechanical Automation programme to learn and develop new practical craft-related skills, knowledge, and competence by:
- Complying with Health and Safety requirements
- Working and learning from experienced craft persons
- Working with machine shop equipment, Pneumatics and mechanical systems
- Understanding and using physics
- Manufacturing and Maintenance of Machine Tooling.
- Continuously Improving the process and equipment
- Undertaking Machine changeovers.
- Using mathematics to solve technical problems
- Being responsible for controlling or adjusting equipment
- Working on machines/processes
- Understanding technical drawings and diagrams
- Being accurate with numbers in counting, measuring and arithmetic
- Working with a variety of specialised hand tools, power tools, measure and test equipment
- Being well organised and careful with practical tasks
- Taking responsibility for their own learning, including the allocation of study time
- Passing all their phase exams (theory, practical skills demonstrations.)
- Carrying out Machine breakdown repair.
- Undertaking preventative maintenance routines.
- Monitoring the performance of plant and equipment and to carry out adjustments and maintenance to ensure the agreed quality and efficiency standards are achieved.
We are looking for applicants with the following:
- A keen interest in engineering, mechanical systems and machinery.
- Approaches problems and people enthusiastically and is solutions focused.
- Engages with other members and craft persons in Maintenance and in other teams to solve problems.
- Possess a strong work ethic
- Have a strong sense of integrity and consistently tries to do the right thing.
- Demonstrates a keen ambition for a career in this area.
- Must be a minimum age of 18 years and eligible to work in Ireland
- Possess an Ordinary-Level Grade D / O6 or higher in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) in 5 subjects including math's.
