We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head Barista / Supervisor to join our our team at Ebb & Flow.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has a genuine passion for speciality coffee, excellent technical knowledge, and the confidence to lead a team and manage a busy shift. You will be responsible for maintaining consistently high coffee and service standards while supporting and developing the wider team during food service.
The successful candidate will be highly knowledgeable about coffee, confident with all aspects of coffee preparation, and capable of taking ownership of a shift in the absence of the General/Restaurant Manager.
Key ResponsibilitiesCoffee & Quality
- Dial in espresso and maintain consistency throughout service.
- Have an extensive understanding of speciality coffee, including extraction, grind settings, dose, yield and brew ratios.
- Carry out regular grinder maintenance and ensure coffee equipment is kept clean and operating to a high standard.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and appreciation of speciality coffee and coffee tasting.
- Produce consistently high-quality espresso-based drinks.
- Have excellent latte art and milk-texturing skills.
- Maintain high standards of coffee presentation and quality throughout every service.
- Monitor and maintain coffee quality, making adjustments where necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the coffee team during busy services.
- Take responsibility for running the shift when the manager is not present.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure the team is working efficiently.
- Maintain and uphold company standards across coffee, food, cleanliness and customer service.
- Support, train and motivate team members.
- Lead by example and create a positive, professional working environment.
- Deal confidently and professionally with day-to-day operational issues.
Cash & Operations
- Complete cash handling and cash reconciliation accurately.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures.
- Ensure stock, equipment and coffee areas are maintained to the required standard.
- Monitor service levels and ensure the team delivers an excellent customer experience.
- Communicate effectively with management regarding any operational issues or concerns.
About You
Essential:
- Extensive professional barista experience, ideally within speciality coffee.
- Strong knowledge of espresso preparation and coffee dial-in.
- Excellent knowledge of grinders and grinder maintenance.
- Strong understanding of speciality coffee tasting and quality.
- Excellent milk texturing and latte art skills.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
- Confident managing a shift independently when a manager is not present.
- Experience with cash handling and reconciliation.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to maintaining standards.
- Able to remain calm, organised and professional in a busy environment.
- A genuine passion for coffee, hospitality and customer service.
- A positive team player who is willing to get stuck in and lead by example.
