Employment Type: Full-time Position, 45 hours per week ; weekend work rotation
Position Overview:
As a Stock Person at Country Crest, your role is vital in the day-to-day operations of our livestock unit. Working closely with the Livestock Manager, you will use your judgment and expertise in selecting animals for market and replenishing the stock to maintain the commercial herd at its optimum readiness. Your responsibilities will include finishing 1,500 cattle per year and managing a small top-quality pedigree Angus and Hereford herd.
Key Responsibilities:
- Animal Selection: Collaborate with the Livestock Manager to choose animals for market and replenish stock effectively.
- Herd Maintenance: Make sure the commercial herd is maintained at peak readiness for sale.
- Leadership: Demonstrate strong leadership and decision-making skills to guide the team and ensure smooth operations within the livestock unit.
- Animal Welfare: Maintain high standards of animal welfare and husbandry at all times.
- Operational Support: Provide assistance in various operational tasks within the livestock unit as required.
- Maintenance of Machinery.
- Showing cattle and preparing for sales.
Key Skills & Qualification:
- Experience: Previous experience in livestock or a related field is preferred.
- Judgment and Decision Making: Strong ability to make informed decisions regarding animal selection and stock management.
- Animal Welfare: Deep commitment to and understanding of animal welfare practices and husbandry standards.
- Communication: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration with the Livestock Manager and other team members. Basic IT.
