Overview:
The Trainee Press Operator will support the safe and efficient operation of hydraulic and mechanical presses used in metal forming. This entry‑level role is designed for individuals seeking to build technical skills in press operation, tooling setup, quality checks, and production workflows. With experience, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to progress to operating mechanical presses, transfer presses, and more advanced forming equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Press Operation & Production
- Assist in the setup, operation, and monitoring of hydraulic presses.
- Load raw materials and remove finished components in line with production requirements.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Support basic troubleshooting under supervision.
Quality & Inspection
- Carry out visual and dimensional checks using gauges, callipers, and fixtures.
- Record production and quality data accurately.
- Escalate non‑conformances promptly.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including machine guarding, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area (5S).
- Participate in safety briefings and training
Learning & Development
- Undertake structured training on hydraulic press operation.
- Gain exposure to mechanical presses, transfer presses, and automated handling systems as skills progress.
- Learn basic tooling changeovers, die protection systems, and press maintenance routines.

Qualifications
- No prior press experience required; manufacturing experience is an advantage.
- Mechanical aptitude or interest in engineering/production is beneficial
- High level of competence in English language essential
- Computer literacy and comfort around technology a requirement
Progression Pathway
- Stage 1: Hydraulic press operation (loading, unloading, basic checks).
- Stage 2 (possible): Tooling changeovers, deeper process understanding, quality ownership.
- Stage 3 (possible): Operation of mechanical presses, transfer presses, and automated systems.
- Stage 4 (possible): Potential progression to Setter, Technician, or Team Lead roles.
