Nairn & Portnoo Golf Links in Co. Donegal is a classic Irish links set on a breath taking strip of land on the Donegal coast in the north west of the country. The golf course is both challenging and creative and the Golf Club is committed to maintaining the Golf Course in the best possible condition. We are now recruiting for a new Deputy Course Superintendent, reporting directly to Course Superintendent advisors, with whom the successful candidate will work closely.
We are seeking a passionate Deputy Golf Course Superintendent with a proven track record in golf course maintenance. The ideal candidate will report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and will be able to work on their own initiative, is ambitious, a team player, and is looking to further their career with one Ireland’s best links golf courses.
This is a Full-Time Permanent Role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deputise for the Superintendent when he is not on site
- Cut tees, greens, surrounds, fairways, rough, and semi-rough
- Set up the golf course, including changing holes, moving tee markers, emptying bins, and clearing debris
- Check machinery before use, refuel after use, and report issues to the Golf Course Superintendent
- Maintain high health and safety standards for self and others
- Repair divots on playing surfaces
- Hand-water and irrigate turf as needed
- Identify and control weeds, pests, and turf diseases
- Mark hazards, out-of-bounds, and ground under repair
- Maintain and renovate bunkers and worn/damaged turf
- Roll greens with a turf iron or similar equipment
- Operate a tractor with various implements
- Understand golf rules related to course maintenance
- Communicate effectively with team members and golfers
Key Skills and Experience:
- 5 years’ experience Greenkeeping, with previous management experience preferred but not essential.
- Relevant Spray Certificates
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
- Effective communication skills
- Strong initiative and independence
