Roughan O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit a geotechnical engineer with two to six years’ relevant experience for a permanent position within our award-winning geotechnical team.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a dedicated and talented geotechnical team in delivering complex geotechnical design solutions, including:
rock/soil slope stabilisation works
ground improvement schemes over soft ground
observational monitoring of construction on peat, cofferdam piling and bridge foundations
In addition to devising and overseeing ground investigation contracts and earthworks/foundations designs for buildings/bridges/retaining walls/flood defences and climate-resilient infrastructure, you will provide specialist geotechnical inputs to our design teams.
You will work within a supportive, multidisciplinary team environment, and with the guidance of experienced mentors, you will advance your technical knowledge and professional development.
Identify preliminary geotechnical risks for projects, undertake option selection analysis and specify investigations to address risks
Support design teams with specialist geotechnical inputs in accordance with Eurocodes and other applicable design standards and guidance
Analyse ground conditions and design parameters for shallow and deep foundations for buildings, bridges, linear infrastructure (roads, greenways, railways) and energy infrastructure etc.
Interact with colleagues in our transportation and environmental teams to improve routes, drainage requirements, flood defences and coastal protection works
Assess borrow and quarry materials for reuse as embankment fill, drainage, concrete and pavement aggregates for mass haul analysis
Pavement foundation design in accordance with TII/UK DMRB
Assess and design soil improvement techniques for soft ground and peatlands for sustainable and innovative designs
Attend and supervise investigations, earthworks and foundations on site
Degree in civil engineering/engineering geology (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)
Knowledge of construction techniques for piles and retaining walls
Knowledge of soft ground techniques, stability and soil reinforcement methods of particular interest
Knowledge of earthworks, soil improvement or deep foundations for linear infrastructure
Experience of geotechnical investigation contracts
Project management skills and experience
Risk management and design skills
Ability to engage as a team member in a busy work environment
Good report writing, MS Word, MS Excel and CAD/BIM skills
Flexibility
Fluency/high degree of proficiency in spoken and written English
Postgraduate qualification in geotechnical engineering or related field. For example, MSc, PhD or a final-year thesis on a geotechnical topic
Membership of a recognised professional body in the geotechnical field in UK/Ireland
Knowledge of earthworks material specifications, aggregates and pavement design
Experience of Irish/UK glacial till soils, including major road/rail projects
Construction experience in earthworks, soil improvement and deep foundations
Experience of flood protection projects or marine environments
Knowledge of ground remediation/potentially contaminated materials
Full driving licence
