Job Purpose
We are seeking an organised, accurate, and reliable Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial records of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounts, processing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and supporting the wider finance function.
The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, good numerical skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
- Record and process sales and purchase invoices.
- Process supplier payments and customer receipts.
- Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
- Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Prepare and process payroll, where required.
- Reconcile customer and supplier accounts.
- Monitor outstanding invoices and follow up on overdue payments.
- Prepare VAT returns and other relevant tax submissions, where applicable.
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
- Prepare financial reports and information for management.
- Maintain accurate records of expenses and company transactions.
- Ensure financial documentation is properly filed and retained.
- Liaise with suppliers, customers, accountants, auditors, and other relevant parties.
- Identify discrepancies and resolve accounting queries promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality of all financial and business information.
- Provide general administrative and financial support to the business as required.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping or accounts position.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workloads.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
Desirable Qualifications
- Bookkeeping or accounting qualification.
- Experience with [Sage / Xero / QuickBooks / other accounting software].
- Experience with payroll and VAT.
- Experience working in a small or medium-sized business environment.
- Knowledge of relevant accounting and tax requirements.
