We are seeking a confident and capable Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly team at Sunbeam Vets Passage West on a full-time, permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced small animal nurse who enjoys autonomy, variety and building long-term relationships with clients and patients. You’ll work closely alongside the branch Veterinary Surgeon and Receptionist, becoming a familiar and trusted member of the local community while having the expertise and resources of the wider Sunbeam Veterinary Group behind you.
Our Passage West clinic is fully equipped with in-house biochemistry and haematology analysers, digital radiography, ultrasound, dental facilities and a dedicated surgical suite. Across the wider Sunbeam group, you’ll also have access to experienced veterinary professionals with certificates in surgery, neurology, emergency and critical care, anaesthesia and internal medicine.
As a Veterinary Nurse, you’ll play a central role in the day-to-day running of the Passage West clinic, delivering high-quality nursing care while supporting excellent client experiences.
You’ll have the opportunity to use your nursing skills fully across inpatient care, surgical nursing, anaesthesia monitoring, nurse consultations, preventative healthcare, diagnostic procedures, laboratory work and patient recovery.
This role offers a high level of autonomy and responsibility, including sole charge nursing, while ensuring you remain connected to and supported by the wider Sunbeam team. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of patient care from admission through to discharge and build lasting relationships with clients and their pets.
Working Pattern
- Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 6:00pm
- Fixed one-hour unpaid lunch break, with the practice closing during lunchtime
- 1 in 6 weekends at the main hospital, working 9:00am – 4:00pm
- Time off in lieu provided for weekend working
- Two Bank Holidays per year at the main hospital, with additional payment provided
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high standards of nursing care across a varied small animal caseload
- Provide inpatient care and support patients throughout their treatment and recovery
- Assist with surgical procedures and monitor anaesthesia
- Run nurse consultations and support preventative healthcare
- Support diagnostic procedures and laboratory work
- Manage patient admissions and discharges and provide clear client education
- Work confidently and independently within your professional competence
- Build strong relationships with clients and provide compassionate, professional support
- Work collaboratively with the branch team and wider Sunbeam Veterinary Group
We’re looking for a confident and motivated Veterinary Nurse who enjoys taking responsibility, working collaboratively and delivering excellent patient and client care. You’ll bring:
- Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the Veterinary Council of Ireland
- Previous experience working within small animal clinical practice
- Confidence in nurse consultations and anaesthesia monitoring
- The ability to work independently and make decisions within your professional competence
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload effectively
- A reliable, adaptable and compassionate approach to patient care
- A proactive attitude towards learning and ongoing professional development
Additional certificates or postgraduate qualifications would be welcomed but are not essential.
