Role Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, professional, and dedicated Social Care Worker to join our team supporting young people seeking international protection.

The successful candidate will play a key role in providing high-quality care, support, and guidance to young people living in a residential care environment. The role requires a trauma-informed approach, with a strong focus on safeguarding, wellbeing, development, independence, and helping each young person feel safe, respected, and supported.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and in partnership with relevant statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure that each young person's individual needs are identified and appropriately supported.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, trauma-informed care and support to young people seeking international protection.
Promote the physical, emotional, psychological, social, educational, and cultural wellbeing of each young person.
Develop positive, professional, and trusting relationships with young people.
Support young people to develop independence, life skills, confidence, and resilience.
Assist young people with their daily routines, personal care, education, appointments, activities, and community integration where required.
Contribute to the development and implementation of individual care and support plans.
Maintain accurate and timely records, including daily reports, incident reports, handovers, and relevant care documentation.
Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding and child protection concerns in accordance with organisational policies and statutory requirements.
Support young people to understand their rights and access appropriate services.
Work collaboratively with social workers, education providers, healthcare professionals, and other relevant professionals.
Promote cultural awareness, inclusion, equality, dignity, and respect.
Encourage participation in education, recreational activities, community activities, and personal development opportunities.
Manage challenging situations in a calm, professional, and trauma-informed manner.
Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and other professional development activities.
Work in accordance with relevant legislation, national standards, organisational policies, and best practice in children's residential care.
Carry out other duties appropriate to the role as required by the Social Care Manager.

Essential Requirements

A minimum Level 7 qualification in Social Care or a relevant recognised degree.
Experience working with children, young people, vulnerable people, or within a social care/residential care setting is desirable.
Knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding principles.
A strong understanding of the needs of young people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Ability to work independently and use initiative.
A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, inclusion, and the rights of young people.

Desirable Requirements

CORU registration.
Previous experience in children's residential care or social care.
Experience working with young people seeking international protection.
Training or experience in trauma-informed care.
Knowledge of child protection procedures and relevant Irish legislation.
Experience working with young people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Additional training in areas such as First Aid, Manual Handling, Children First, Safeguarding, or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
