Job Summary

The following is a non-exhaustive summary of the duties of the post;

ensure the efficient and effective functioning of any staff reporting to them

have a good technical aptitude and the ability to use a range of hand, mechanical and electrical tools/equipment

direct and control the implementation of planned programmes of work

be able to operate and supervise the operation of machinery in their area

ensure the implementation of the Council’s Health and Safety Procedures by staff at all times

assist in the preparation and updating of records and reports

ensure that any relevant training and instruction is received by all staff under his/her supervision

be flexible in terms of working hours as this position may require work outside of normal hours

arrange the supply of materials necessary for maintenance/repair work

be available at all times to carry out inspections, prepare a specification of repairs and arrange the execution of work

liaise and co-operate with any outside agency/contractor engaged by Galway County Council

keep the Area Engineer/Senior Executive Engineer/Senior Engineer informed on all matters

Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms;

Have a minimum of two years’ experience of civil works.

Have a minimum of two years’ experience in the supervision and management of staff.

Have a standard of education that would enable him/her to efficiently perform their duties and must be capable of making satisfactory reports (including written reports) on matters pertaining to the duties of the post.

Have satisfactory knowledge of the requirements of health & safety legislation and the ability to properly complete safe systems of work plans

Be capable of carrying out the organisational duties attached to the role including keeping of records and a level of IT skills fitting for the role.

Hold a valid current Safe Pass card prior to any prospective appointment to the post.

Applicants should at the date of applying hold a full unendorsed valid Irish /EU licence, for Class B vehicles, or a licence acceptable to NDLS for transfer to full Irish licence, (Link below).
