At The Johnstown Estate, we're proud to create a warm and welcoming experience for our guests, and behind the scenes our Maintenance Team plays a huge part in making that happen.
We're looking for a practical, hands-on and reliable Maintenance Operative to join our team.
This is an all-round maintenance role suited to someone who enjoys fixing things, solving problems and taking pride in keeping a busy hotel running smoothly.
You don't need to be an expert in every trade. We're looking for someone with good maintenance experience, a can-do attitude and a broad range of practical skills. Experience with plumbing would be a strong advantage, along with knowledge of general building maintenance.
No two days will be exactly the same. Your role will include a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks throughout the hotel and estate, including:
-
Carrying out general repairs and maintenance throughout the hotel.
-
Responding to maintenance requests from different departments and getting issues resolved quickly and efficiently.
-
Carrying out basic plumbing repairs and maintenance, including leaks, taps, toilets, drains, pipework and other fixtures.
-
Assisting with electrical and lighting maintenance where appropriate.
-
Carrying out general handyman work such as painting, decorating, carpentry, tiling and minor building repairs.
-
Helping to maintain equipment, machinery, fixtures and fittings throughout the property.
-
Carrying out routine checks and preventative maintenance to identify issues before they become bigger problems.
-
Responding to urgent maintenance issues such as leaks, blockages, flooding, power or equipment issues.
-
Keeping maintenance areas, tools and equipment safe, tidy and in good working order.
-
Keeping simple and accurate records of work completed and reporting any issues that require further attention.
-
Monitoring maintenance supplies and letting the Maintenance Manager know when stock needs to be replenished.
-
Working closely with the wider Maintenance Team and other hotel departments to keep the property safe, comfortable and looking its best.
-
Following all health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
We're looking for someone who is:
-
Hands-on and practical, with experience in a maintenance, handyman, trades or similar role.
-
Confident carrying out general repairs and maintenance.
-
Comfortable troubleshooting problems and finding practical solutions.
-
Experienced in plumbing, or with a good understanding of basic plumbing repairs.
-
Ideally familiar with a range of other skills such as painting, carpentry, tiling, electrical or general building maintenance.
-
Able to work independently and use their initiative, while also being a team player.
-
Reliable, organised and able to prioritise jobs in a busy environment.
-
Comfortable working in a hotel or other busy commercial environment - although hospitality experience is not essential.
-
Committed to working safely and maintaining a high standard of work.
-
Friendly and approachable, with good communication skills.
Relevant trade qualifications are welcome but not essential. What matters most to us is your practical experience, attitude and willingness to get stuck in.
A full clean driving licence would be an advantage.
You'll be joining a friendly team in a beautiful estate where your work genuinely makes a difference to the experience of our guests and colleagues.
We value Passion, Customer Focus, Teamwork and Integrity, and we want our people to feel supported, appreciated and able to develop their skills.
If you're the kind of person who enjoys fixing things, figuring things out and taking pride in a job well done, we'd love to hear from you.
If you have good all-round maintenance skills but don't tick every box above, we'd still encourage you to apply.
This role will involve flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required. Participation in an on-call rota may also be required for emergency maintenance situations.
