Position Title : MHPSS Cultural Mediation Associate
Duty Station : Citywest, Dublin, Ireland
Classification : General Service Staff, UG
Type of Appointment : Special Short-Term Ungraded, 9 months with the possibility of Extension
Estimated Start Date : August 2026

Closing Date : 21 July 2026

Context:

IOM opened an office in Ireland in 2001. Ireland became a full member government of IOM in 2002. IOM Ireland provides with programming activities in the following areas of migration management: Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration, Resettlement, Family Reunification, Counter-Trafficking, Protection, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).

The proposed project is designed to support the International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS), of the Department of Children, Integration, Equality, Disability and Youth, to provide international protection applicants residing in Citywest and potentially other Centers in the Dublin area, with Community-Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (CB MHPSS)[1] through Psychosocial Mobile Teams, with the aim of improving psychosocial well-being from a bio-psychological, socio-relational and cultural perspective and strengthening the overall resilience of beneficiaries, who have recently applied for International Protection (IP) in Ireland.

Under the direct supervision of Senior Cultural Mediation Associate , the incumbent will provide support in implementing project activities related to community mobilization and pertinent activities for international protection applicants hosted in Citywest accommodation centre.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Facilitate communication and interpretation between service providers and International Protection Applicants, ensuring neutrality, accuracy, impartiality, and confidentiality.

2. Support beneficiaries in understanding administrative procedures and completing required forms related to the international protection process.

3. Provide interpretation and cultural mediation support to IOM staff and partner service providers in assigned locations to enhance service delivery.

4. Assist in the identification of individuals with vulnerabilities or protection concerns and support referral to appropriate services.

5. Support psychosocial support activities, focus group discussions, and community engagement initiatives implemented by IOM or partners.

6. Contribute to data collection processes, case identification, and referral documentation through interpretation and cultural mediation support.

7. Maintain basic documentation, activity records, and summary statistics related to project implementation and support reporting requirements.

8. Undertake mobility across assigned sites as required and perform other duties as delegated by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Experience

EDUCATION

Minimum 2 years of experience in cultural mediation within migrant or refugee support contexts
Experience with NGOs, international organisations, EU agencies, or government services is an advantage

EXPERIENCE

Completion of trainings in cultural mediation for mental health settings, and competence in the MHPSS specialized vocabulary would be an asset.
Experience in cultural mediation in the framework of migrants’ assistance.
Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs, EU Agencies and/or Irish law enforcements or Government’s Departments would be an asset.

Culture-specific knowledge
Capacity to prevent and mitigate conflicts and bridge gaps due to language misunderstandings in an objective and impartial manner between the beneficiaries and the authorities
Psychological understanding in interpersonal communication and sensitiveness in addressing the asylum-seekers’ claims
Knowledge of the procedures related to the asylum application in Ireland
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and work with statistics
Good experience with Microsoft Office

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish

REQUIRED

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

Fluency or mother tongue in Georgian is required

DESIRABLE

Working knowledge of any UN languages an advantage.
