Role Overview We are seeking an energetic and reliable Hardware Sales & Yard Operative to join our busy retail store. This fast-paced, hybrid role balances trade yard logistics with active in-store retail service. You will split your time evenly between unloading supplier deliveries, loading up customer vehicles, greeting visitors, processing cash and card transactions, and keeping our entire site organised, clean, and safe.
Customer Service & POS Transactions
- Greet customers warmly as they enter the shop floor or trade yard, acting as the helpful face of our store.
- Provide proactive assistance, guiding customers to the correct hardware, tools, or building materials.
- Process sales transactions quickly and accurately using our electronic Point of Sale (POS) system.
Yard Operations & Deliveries
- Load customer vehicles with heavy or bulky hardware materials safely and efficiently.
- Unload incoming supplier deliveries,
- Verify goods inwards
Stock Control & Store Safety
- Maintain continuous stock control, helping with merchandising, shelf replenishment, and routine inventory counts.
- Keep the shop floor and yard safe, tidy, and clean to eliminate hazards for both staff and the public.
Requirements & Skills
- Prior retail, hardware, or builders' merchant experience is highly valued but not strictly required.
- Comfort working outdoors
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly personality to manage a high volume of customer interactions daily.
- High attention to detail for processing monetary transactions on the checkout and conducting accurate stock counts.
- A Forklift Licence (Counterbalance) is a strong advantage
- Manual Handling Cert is an advantage
