Full job description

St Joseph's Nursing Home, Killorglin is a vibrant and welcoming home located just outside Killorglin town, set against the backdrop of the McGillycuddy Reeks and the River Laune.

We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing to lead our nursing home and continue building a culture of excellence, quality and resident wellbeing.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nursing leader looking to take the next step in their career within a highly supportive environment.

A leadership role with strong support

As Director of Nursing and Person in Charge, you will not be expected to lead alone.

You will work closely with our experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Quality and Compliance Officer, who provide ongoing support across:

Clinical leadership and governance
HIQA readiness and regulatory compliance
Quality improvement and audit processes
Service development and operational planning
Policy implementation and best practice guidance
Coaching, mentoring and leadership support

This structure is designed to allow our Directors of Nursing to focus on leading their teams, delivering excellent resident outcomes and continuing their professional growth with expert support available throughout.

About the Role

Reporting to the Regional CEO and working in partnership with the Chief Nursing Officer on clinical matters, the Director of Nursing is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of person-centred care and regulatory compliance across the service.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Clinical & Service Leadership

Lead the overall operation and management of the nursing home
Act as Person in Charge in accordance with the Health Act 2007 and HIQA standards
Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care
Lead service improvement, quality initiatives and governance processes
Promote a culture of excellence, accountability and continuous improvement

Team Leadership

Lead, support and develop multidisciplinary teams
Drive staff engagement, development and performance
Support recruitment, induction and workforce planning
Foster a positive and collaborative working environment

Quality, Compliance & Governance

Maintain readiness for HIQA inspections and regulatory requirements
Oversee audits, action plans and quality monitoring
Ensure policies, procedures and standards are implemented effectively
Promote best practice and resident safety across all areas of care

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

Registered Nurse with full NMBI registration
Evidence of continuous professional development
Minimum 3 years out of the last 6 years in an aged care setting at management level within health and social care
Post-registration management qualification in health or a related field
Strong knowledge of HIQA standards and Irish healthcare regulations

Desirable Experience

Quality management and audit experience
Service development and strategic planning experience
Human resource and budget management experience
Experience leading teams through change and improvement initiatives
