Job Description: External Underground Services – Phase 1 Lead
We are seeking an experienced External Underground Services Lead to manage the first phase of civil infrastructure and buried-services works for a major biopharmaceutical facility expansion in South Dublin.
Working within the site-based project delivery team, the successful candidate will coordinate contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams across excavation, drainage, utility installation, crossings, tie-ins, testing and reinstatement. The position requires strong field leadership and the ability to manage complex underground works safely within a busy construction campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the safe and coordinated delivery of assigned Phase 1 external underground-services packages.
- Coordinate excavation, earthworks, foul and storm drainage, process drainage, water services, fire mains, electrical ducting, communications ducting and other buried utilities as applicable.
- Manage contractor execution against approved construction sequences, method statements, quality requirements and project milestones.
- Coordinate interfaces between civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, utilities and external-works packages.
- Review civil drawings, utility layouts, specifications, surveys, temporary-works proposals, technical submittals and field changes.
- Confirm construction readiness, including permits, surveys, service detection, access, materials and approved documentation.
- Identify potential clashes, access limitations and sequencing issues before they affect site execution.
- Coordinate utility crossings, live-service interfaces and planned tie-ins with the relevant project and client stakeholders.
- Monitor contractor productivity and progress against weekly and short-term look-ahead plans.
- Drive the resolution of RFIs, design clarifications and unforeseen ground or field conditions.
- Coordinate inspections, pressure testing, CCTV surveys, compaction records and other required quality checks.
- Ensure accurate survey information, as-built records and quality documentation are completed before backfilling or reinstatement.
- Manage punch-list, protection and completion activities and support turnover of completed infrastructure.
- Report clearly on progress, safety concerns, constraints, risks and recovery actions.
Skills & Experience
- A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline is preferred.
- At least eight years’ civil construction experience, including significant responsibility for underground utilities or site infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of excavation, temporary works, drainage, ducting, buried pipework, utility crossings and reinstatement.
- Proven experience coordinating civil contractors and multidisciplinary construction interfaces.
- Ability to interpret civil drawings, utility layouts, surveys, specifications and construction schedules.
- Strong understanding of inspection, testing, as-built capture and progressive quality closeout for underground works.
- Excellent planning, field coordination and practical problem-solving skills.
- Experience delivering works within an active, constrained or brownfield site would be advantageous.
- Pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical or other major industrial construction experience is preferred.
Contract Information
- Rate: TBC dependent on level of skills and expertise.
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Length of Contract: 12 months contract with possible extension.
- Location: South Dublin
- Schedule: 4-5 days per week on site.
- Eligibility: Candidates must hold an Irish/EU passport or a valid Stamp 1G or Stamp 4 permission enabling them to work in Ireland
Pay: €70.00-€80.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
