As the Communications and Government Affairs Intern will support GSK Ireland’s Communications & Government Affairs (CGA) team in strengthening GSK’s external profile and relationships with key political, healthcare, policy and media stakeholders, and in driving effective internal communications and employee engagement across the Ireland organisation.
The role provides hands-on experience across external communications, policy, stakeholder engagement, internal communications, culture and engagement initiatives, working closely with the Head of CGA and wider CGA team.

In this role you will...
External Communications & Media
- Assist in drafting, editing and formatting external communications materials (e.g. press releases, media statements, Q&As, briefing packs), under the guidance of the Head of CGA and brand teams.
- Support monitoring of traditional and social media relevant to GSK, biopharma and healthcare policy in Ireland, providing regular summaries for the CGA team and Ireland Leadership Team.
- Help prepare content and logistics for external speaking engagements, roundtables and events that showcase GSK’s innovation and contribution to patients and the health system.
Government Affairs & Policy Support
- Support mapping and maintenance of stakeholder lists and profiles across political, governmental, healthcare and policy bodies in Ireland.
- Assist political engagement when required and as appropriate
- Assist in preparing briefing documents, slide decks and meeting notes for engagements with government, parliamentary and policy stakeholders, ensuring alignment with approved positions and governance requirements.
- Help track relevant policy and legislative developments affecting GSK’s business and pipeline in Ireland, summarising potential implications for the CGA and Market Access teams.
Internal Communications, Culture & Employee Engagement
- Support design and delivery of internal communication campaigns that reinforce GSK’s culture, ambition and strategic priorities in Ireland, working with the CGA team, Ireland Leadership Team and employee engagement leads.
- Draft and format internal communications (e.g. emails, townhall materials, Workvivo posts, newsletters) that keep colleagues informed and engaged on key business updates and priority initiatives.
- Help plan and execute employee engagement initiatives (e.g. townhalls, culture events, listening sessions, campaign drives), including logistics, communications and feedback collection.
- Support continuous improvement in CGA ways of working, helping to simplify processes and improve coordination across teams in the business.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Ireland Commercial, Medical and Business Excellence teams on priority cross-functional initiatives where CGA support is required.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- Degree in communications, public relations, political science, public policy, journalism, marketing, or a related discipline.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences (media, political, internal).
- Demonstrated interest in healthcare, life sciences, public policy or the pharmaceutical sector in Ireland
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficiency in standard office tools (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
- Proven experience in digital and social media channels
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:
- Experience (internship, voluntary or project) in communications, public affairs, government, NGOs, patient organisations or media.
- Understanding of the Irish healthcare and policy environment, and how it impacts access to innovative medicines and vaccines.
- Experience working in or with large organisations and/or regulated environments.
