This exciting role offers the opportunity to be involved in projects across Ireland and internationally, including:
· River condition assessments
· River restoration
· Assessment of catchment hydrology and river processes
· Developing and applying decision support tools for appraising river and catchment management and restoration.
· Environmental Impact Assessment (water and river processes)
· Disaster Risk Management and Strategic Investment Planning in an international context.
The key areas of responsibility associated with this role will be:
· Managing and working with various kinds of data, including spatial data;
· Analysing data sets using MS Excel, QGIS, and if experienced, software such as R;
· Map creation and data visualisation;
· Contributing to the assessment of baseline conditions e.g., hydromorphological condition of river water bodies under the Water Framework Directive.
· Contributing to the identification, assessment, and design of options to e.g., improve river and habitat condition, mitigate/reduce natural hazards risks or impacts.
· Help to plan and undertake site surveys and fieldwork utilising established fluvial geomorphological methods (RHAT, Fluvial Audit, historical planform reconstruction) and other survey techniques (e.g., drone flyovers);
· Contribution to a EU Horizon research project to develop decision making framework and tools for appraising and progressing sediment restoration initiatives;
· Help translate technical river sediment or water quality studies into clear policy and environmental management recommendations;
· Writing technical reports and other outputs e.g., non-technical summaries, presentations;
· Contribution to technical workshops for capacity building and presenting project findings;
· Co-ordinating tenders and managing tender teams for Irish and international opportunities (specifically in Arabic-speaking, EU Member States, and EU Southern and Eastern near neighbourhood countries);
· Provide support to our Environmental, Disaster Risk Management, Flood Risk Management, Ecology, Water & Engineering Teams;
· Engage with clients / sub-contractors / external stakeholders in multi-cultural and cross-sectoral projects as necessary; and
· Working with colleagues throughout JBA and external project partners.
