The Gallery wishes to recruit a Compliance Officer on a permanent basis. This post will be suited to a professional, diligent, organised individual who has a proven ability to manage and contribute to the administration of multiple projects as well as providing wider administrative and general support to the Head of Legal & Risk, broader Legal & Compliance team and the Board.
- Complete a broad range of general and administrative tasks for the Legal & Compliance team
- Play an active role in bringing compliance projects to completion and ensuring compliance obligations are met on an ongoing basis, including reporting obligations
- Assist in preparing compliance registers and records and maintaining legislative obligations
- Assist with information requests, including under Freedom of Information, Data Protection and Access to Information on the Environment legislation and maintaining relevant records
- Assist with updates to the Gallerys Freedom of Information Publication Scheme
- Assist with risk management processes
- Assist with updates to the Gallerys Corporate Governance Framework and Assurance Universe documentation
- Assist with audit queries (internal and external)
- Compile internal reports, summaries and minutes as required
- Assist with administration for the Board and its Committees, including preparation for meetings, as required
- Maintain and monitor the legal and compliance email inbox and shared calendar
- Prepare and distribute a monthly task schedule to the Legal & Compliance team
- Research and prioritise incoming issues and concerns addressed to the Gallery, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature and determine an appropriate course of action, referral or response, in consultation with the Legal & Compliance team
- Work closely and effectively with other members of the Legal & Compliance team to ensure they are kept well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities
- Treat all matters related to the Gallery with discretion and confidentiality
- Complete any other duties as directed
- A third level qualification in law; compliance; corporate governance; project management or similar discipline
- Relevant work experience in a position related to law, compliance or company secretarial matters
- A proven ability to proactively participate in, manage and follow through on projects and tasks to successful completion
- Strong administrative skills coupled with an ability to organise and prioritise multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail
- Experience in dealing with Freedom of Information requests and/or data subject access requests
- A proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands and demonstrate a high degree of professional service in response to queries
- An ability to work independently and on own initiative whilst being part of a wider team.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving with good decision-making capability
- A proven ability to prioritise conflicting needs and progress matters expeditiously
- Good interpersonal skills together with an ability to maintain positive relationships
- A professional, diplomatic and discreet manner when dealing with the Gallerys Board, staff and other stakeholders
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in IT skills including MS Office and databases
- An interest in the Gallery and/or art, history of art or art management
- A positive approach to working in the Gallery and the ability to deliver an effective and professional service

Grade and Salary:
The salary for this position will be in accordance with the Executive Officer (PPC) pay scale, as per the 1 June 2026 pay adjustments. The salary scale for this position is as follows:

- The starting salary will be at the first point on the scale, 38,803 per annum, or on a higher point of the scale, as appropriate to the successful candidate, if appointed from an existing public sector role (in accordance with Circular 08/2019).
- Candidates should note the National Gallery of Ireland complies with Department of Public Expenditure and Reform regulations and guidelines on Public Service pay and conditions of employment.
Annual Leave:The successful candidate will be entitled to 23 days of annual leave pro rata.
Superannuation: The successful candidate will be placed on the public sector pension scheme.
Benefits: The Gallery provides staff the opportunity to participate in the tax saver and cycle to work schemes.
Duration: Permanent.
Working hours: Full time, 5 days a week 35 hours per week (net of breaks). Please note, flexibility is required and the successful candidate will be required to work occasional early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
