Job Purpose
The Operations & Asset Management Directorate within EirGrid comprises highly skilled professionals with backgrounds in engineering and business/commerce.
Ireland has a target to achieve 80% of our electricity to come from renewable resources by 2030 and to be net carbon neutral by 2050. The Operations & Asset Management Directorate is central to the delivery of our primary role – the operation, development and enhancement of the all-island power system and the wholesale electricity market. Creating a culture of continuous improvement whilst maintaining operational resilience, that drives technical and process innovation is central to delivering on this role.
The Interconnection function is responsible for the operational activities associated with managing the 500 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) East West interconnector (EWIC) to Wales on a 24 x 7 basis and the readiness activities associated with the proposed 700 MW Celtic Interconnector MW HVDC link between Ireland and France. This includes leading the delivery of transformational change in cross border markets, operational development and asset management, as well as identifying and supporting future Interconnector opportunities for the benefit of consumers.

Key Responsibilities
The role of Senior Lead Commercial Analyst will support the Interconnection Team in ensuring that it fulfils its objective to integrate and optimise the use of HVDC interconnection assets to deliver the greatest benefit to the System Operation of the Irish transmission grid while supporting the ongoing integration of renewable generation resources. The Senior Lead Commercial Analyst will provide technical and commercial expertise across market analytics, financial modelling and scenario development to support the optimisation and integration of EirGrid’s interconnection portfolio.
The role is central to the development and execution of commercial strategies for HVDC interconnectors, including Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), congestion revenue modelling and cross-border market participation. The role holder will lead the development of robust modelling capability (including PLEXOS-based market modelling) to support forecasting, regulatory submissions and investment decisions.
Working across interconnection projects such as the Celtic Interconnector, the role will ensure that commercial, regulatory and operational decisions are underpinned by high-quality analysis, enabling EirGrid to maximise value from interconnection while supporting a secure, low-carbon power system.

- Lead commercial analysis to support optimisation of interconnector performance, including revenues, congestion income and related commercial opportunities.

Identify and evaluate commercial opportunities across interconnection and cross-border markets, supporting long-term value creation.

Modelling & Forecasting
- Lead development and application of PLEXOS and other modelling tools to simulate the optimisation of HVDC interconnectors in power system and market outcomes across multiple scenarios.

Deliver revenue forecasting, congestion income modelling and financial projections for interconnectors.

Analyse market dynamics including price formation, interconnector flows, renewable integration and cross-border trading behaviour.

Develop scalable, repeatable modelling processes, including data pipelines, validation approaches and reporting outputs.
Programme & Project Delivery
- You will lead the delivery of complex projects and analytical workstreams, both technical and commercial, which are designed to achieve regulated targets and meet stakeholder needs in line with company requirements to develop interconnection opportunities to the benefit of all (e.g. Celtic readiness, SMP, FTR implementation).
