The Opportunity
EirGrid’s Data Engineering Team is accelerating its Transformation Programme and is looking for a Senior Software Engineer. The successful candidate will be a member of the team delivering real-time and ex-post data to a complex suite of platforms and applications that support both the Power System and wholesale Energy market in Ireland. The successful candidate will contribute to shaping the future direction of the Data Engineering discipline within EirGrid through the design, development and maintenance of data engineering solutions to stakeholders industry wide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain software solutions that support real-time and ex-post data delivery.
- Collaborate with the Lead Data and Systems Engineer and Senior Specialist to implement technical designs.
- Participate in code reviews, solution design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure software quality through comprehensive testing, documentation, and adherence to coding standards.
- Support the integration of data platforms and APIs across the application landscape.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production and development environments.
- Contribute to the evolution of internal development practices and tools.
- Support, mentor and coach more junior team members in the development of their skills and experience
Represent the team both internally and externally in technical engagements with IT Architecture, Enterprise Security, industry stakeholders, software vendors, data consumers, our strategic partners etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience-
A minimum of 5+ years of experience in software development, ideally in data-intensive environments.
- Strong proficiency in Oracle PL/SQL, .NET, C#, ASP.NET, and Visual Studio.
- Comprehensive knowledge of: Webservices, APIs and API Tools e.g. IIS, SOAPUI, Postman, Security Certificate usage
- Experience with data processing in Oracle and SQL Server environments.
- Familiarity with API development and integration for supporting data flow between applications.
- Understanding of the risks associated with data management - including data handling, classification and data quality.
- Strong problem-solving skills, demonstrating an understanding of inter-dependencies across a complex application landscape
- A self-starter with an ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Working knowledge of scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
