DESCRIPTION

AWS operates one of the world’s largest and most highly available networks which continues to grow rapidly in both size and complexity in response to customer demand. Many AWS customers run mission critical workloads that depend on our networks to be always on. Network Monitoring and Remediation (NMR) is responsible for preventing, predicting, detecting and remediating impairments across our network, both physical and logical, before they cause impact to our customers. We own the software systems that consume trillions of telemetry datapoints per day from the millions of network devices, use various big-data techniques including ML/AI to turn the telemetry into actionable notifications when things go bad, and package them into our event management system for automated mitigation and remediation. For the detected issues that we haven’t yet automated, we provide a suite of expert diagnostic tools that enable our human operators to quickly determine next steps. Our vision is that any failure in the network is pre-emptively remediated before it can cause customer impact by systems that require no human intervention.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We’re on the lookout for a leader who is passionate about people, distributed systems, software platforms, AI and delighting our customers. You will own the design, development, testing, and deployment of your systems and services. You will draw from a breadth and depth of technical expertise to mentor engineers, complete hands-on technical work, and provide leadership on complex technical issues.

As a Software Development Manager in Amazon, you will be part of the larger technical leadership community that plays a critical role in business planning, works closely with senior executives, influences our long-term technical and business strategy, helps us hire talented people, and ultimately enables us to deliver for our customers.

As a Software Development Manager at Amazon you will:

Lead, mentor, and hire-for a world-class software development team.
Lead the design, implementation, and deployment of successful highly distributed, large scale services.
Serve as a lead on demanding, complex, multi-team, cross-functional projects.
Actively participate in hiring talented people and assisting in the career development of people within and outside your team.
Play a critical role in the broader business planning; working closely with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements.
Define long-term technical and business strategy and goals.
Demonstrate high levels of creativity and the right judgment, most of the time.
Understand business context to decisions made within and across groups.
Maintain a current understanding of industry and technology trends.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience in engineering team management
Experience in engineering
Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services
Experience partnering with product and program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
