The Opportunity
The purpose of the role of the Policy Analyst is to support the development and communication of key policy positions for the organisation. The role holder will be required to consider a complex policy and regulatory environment and to develop strategic engagement through a variety of media.
In addition, the role holder will have political sensitivity, be responsible for providing strategic business insights, as well as external analysis to key stakeholders to assist in the delivery of the strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support strategy-related research activities including industry, regulatory and policy trend analysis including developing position papers and briefings.
- Support the implementation of the Policy Coordination Group including the identification and consideration of key external policy developments in Ireland, Europe and on a global level.
- Support the coordination of EirGrid’s response to government and industry consultations and publications.
- In collaboration with the business, support the development of the Group’s policy positions and thought leadership on key areas and emerging themes and trends.
- In collaboration with the business, ensure these key policy positions and messages are incorporated across our external activities and engagement.
- Build on and develop existing stakeholder engagement initiatives ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives of EirGrid.
- Support engagement with Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC), NewERA and other government departments in relation to public policy developments.
- Support engagement with other key stakeholders in relation to public policy developments and other common interests
- Support the delivery of key corporate governance requirements for compliance with the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies.
- Ensure strategic and business issues and proposed solutions are highlighted appropriately to the Head of Strategy & Policy.
- Represent EirGrid at external forums and events.
- Prepare presentations and papers for the Chief Executive and Executive Team, to support them in engaging with the Board and external stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of and reporting on EirGrid’s role in key Government strategies and plans such as the Climate Action Plan to DECC, the executive team and the Board as appropriate
About You-
Strong business acumen and commercial understanding
- Strong analytical skills and rigorous attention to detail
- Ability to build credibility and strong relationships with senior stakeholders with the ability to influence and engage in constructive challenge
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, verbal and written; ability to take complex and technical information, determine what the important aspects are and present it in written format or to senior stakeholders in a non-complex manner
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills; ability to navigate the organisation and garner support from multiple areas to deliver initiatives
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise under pressure of deadlines, while working independently; knows when and how to escalate appropriately
- Qualified to degree or masters level in a relevant discipline
- Deep knowledge of the Group's activities and understanding of the electricity sector is helpful, but not essential
