Python Backend Developer | Yippie AI | €60,000–€70,000/year
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Python Backend Developer to join our team, working on a production environment for one of our financial-services clients.
You'll work primarily across an existing Python API and microservices layer, maintaining and improving production services as well as designing and delivering new APIs and integrations.
You'll work closely with the Technical Lead and directly with client engineering teams. You'll be expected to take ownership of your work from understanding requirements and technical design through development, testing, deployment and production support.
This is a hands-on engineering role with significant client exposure and the opportunity to take increasing technical ownership as the team grows.
What You'll Be Doing
· Designing, developing and maintaining production Python APIs and microservices
· Taking ownership of changes from requirements and technical design through to deployment
· Working directly with client engineering and business teams to understand requirements and agree technical approaches
· Maintaining, monitoring and improving existing backend services
· Building integrations between source systems and downstream services
· Reviewing existing services and identifying opportunities to improve reliability, maintainability and performance
· Applying security best practices including authentication, authorisation, secrets management and secure handling of client data
· Writing automated tests and contributing to CI/CD and deployment processes
· Troubleshooting production issues and supporting services after deployment
· Contributing to engineering standards, documentation and technical decision-making
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with strong professional Python experience who is comfortable working with production backend systems and can take ownership of delivering changes in an enterprise environment.
You'll ideally have 4+ years of professional software development experience, with significant experience developing APIs or backend services in Python.
Required
· Strong commercial Python development experience
· Production experience building and maintaining REST APIs, ideally using FastAPI
· Experience working with microservices or distributed backend systems
· Experience with AWS, ideally including Lambda, API Gateway and/or ECS
· Strong understanding of Git, automated testing and modern software development practices
· Experience troubleshooting and supporting production systems
· Good understanding of API security, authentication and authorisation
· Ability to work directly with client teams and communicate technical decisions clearly
Nice to Have
· Docker and Kubernetes
· CI/CD using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or similar
· Asynchronous Python and API performance optimisation
· Terraform or CloudFormation
· Snowflake or other cloud data platforms
· Experience working in financial services or other regulated environments
· Previous consultancy or client-facing engineering experience
· AWS, SnowPro or other relevant certifications
Pay: €60,000.00-€70,000.00 per year
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Dublin, County Dublin
