Job Purpose
To ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of food processing, packaging, and utility equipment through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. The role supports production efficiency, food safety, quality, and continuous improvement while minimising downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reliability
- Carry out preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production and utility equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise production downtime.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Monitor equipment performance and maintain accurate maintenance records using the CMMS (Fiix).
Production Support
- Work closely with Production and Quality teams to maximise equipment performance and product quality.
- Support line start-ups, changeovers, and troubleshooting.
- Identify and implement improvements to enhance equipment reliability, OEE, and reduce waste.
Utilities & Plant Services
Maintain and support factory utility systems, including:
- Conveyors and automated production lines
- Steam boilers
- Refrigeration systems
- Compressed air systems
- Water treatment systems
- Pumps, pipework, and HVAC
Monitor utility performance and support energy-saving initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Mechanical Fitter or Maintenance Fitter with a recognised apprenticeship (Irish Craft Certificate, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Experience in food manufacturing or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance systems.
- Experience with conveyors, pumps, mixers, packaging equipment, refrigeration systems, and automated production lines is advantageous.
- HACCP, GMP, Food Safety, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or CMRP training/certification is desirable.
Technical Skills
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, motors, drive systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, mechanical seals, stainless steel fabrication, hygienic pipework, and food-grade lubrication.
- Familiarity with condition monitoring techniques such as vibration analysis, thermography, and ultrasound.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and use CMMS systems.
Working Conditions
Food manufacturing environment requiring compliance with GMP and the use of appropriate PPE, including protective clothing, safety footwear, hearing protection, and hairnets. The role may require shift work, weekend cover, and participation in an on-call rota.
