Data Center Automation & Controls Engineer (BMS/EPMS)
About the Role
We are hiring an Automation & Controls Engineer for data center operations. This role owns the integration and governance of monitoring data from BMS, EPMS, and related HVAC/electrical systems, and drives the high-quality rollout of automation technology across our IDC 5.0 modular data hall deployments. The role works closely with local FM/FE teams, bridging on-site control logic and standardized monitoring platform buildout.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring Integration & Governance: Own the integration of BMS, EPMS, and other HVAC/electrical monitoring data into the EMS platform, including measurement-point alignment, alarm convergence, and strategy optimization;
- Topology Mapping & Architecture Buildout: Coordinate local FM/FE teams to map electrical, HVAC, and automation topology structures, driving standardization;
- Automation Logic Review & Risk Assessment: Review vendor equipment (e.g., chillers, fans) PLC control logic, identify potential failure risks, and develop standardized solutions; participate in change reviews and O&M technical optimization;
- Emergency Plan Execution: Develop and rehearse EOPs (Emergency Operating Procedures) to achieve coordinated response between monitoring and control systems;
- Critical Technology Rollout Oversight: Ensure high-quality deployment of key automation technologies during IDC 5.0 modular pod rollouts overseas; oversee vendor on-site work (e.g., firmware upgrades, BMS modifications) to ensure no disruption to production-environment monitoring quality.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, HVAC, Computer Science, or a related field;
- 5+ years of relevant work experience, including 3+ years in data center O&M management or quality engineering;
- Fluent English is a hard requirement, with the ability to independently handle on-site technical communication and English documentation overseas; Mandarin Chinese is a plus;
- Strong cross-department, cross-team, and cross-cultural collaboration skills, with high execution and ownership.
- Ability to work closely with local FM/FE teams to drive the buildout of IDC control systems, from monitoring through to full automation.
- Technical capability in either of the following tracks (either background welcome; composite backgrounds preferred):
Track 1: Monitoring Integration
- Familiar with mainstream communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, SNMP, MQTT, etc.);
- Experience with BMS/EPMS system deployment, commissioning, usage, and optimization;
- Coding/scripting ability is a plus;
- Best suited to candidates with a background integrating low-voltage/electrical and automation monitoring systems.
Track 2: Controls Engineering
- Strong hands-on PLC programming and industrial control logic knowledge;
- Understanding of HVAC/electrical equipment operating mechanisms — automatic switchover, frequency regulation, airflow/damper control, etc.;
- Best suited to candidates with a field electrical (PLC) or HVAC (BA) system commissioning/optimization background.
Candidates with the following backgrounds are still encouraged to apply
- Hands-on commissioning experience with a BMS vendor; or
- Experience with intelligent control systems in commercial buildings or large-scale factories (building automation or industrial controls), looking to transition into data centers.
